Praia Bateria- Ilheu das Rolas

Perfect blue waters framed by palm trees

Travellers have had delightful experiences at this beach, frequently describing it as the most beautiful they have ever seen, with perfect blue waters framed by palm trees. The journey to the beach can be an adventure in itself, taking only about 30 minutes by foot from where one is dropped off by boat. While navigating across scattered coconuts on the path may be a bit of a challenge, the small size of the island ensures that getting lost is not a concern, and some travellers opt to hire a guide for a few euros for added insight.

The beach is nestled between cliffs, offering spectacular views that combine the yellow sand, black rocks, turquoise waters, green vegetation, and the blue-grey sky. Visitors find it a fantastic spot for photography and relaxation, particularly during weekdays when serenity is at its peak. The local cuisine and the newly constructed bungalows enhance the stay, making it excellent for family outings.

However, access to the beach has been noted as difficult, with a broken staircase and a need to descend steep rocks. Swimming is advised against due to strong currents and powerful waves, and there are reports of sometimes challenging acrobatics required to navigate the treacherous paths down. Additionally, there is a need to be vigilant against thefts, and litter left behind, especially on weekends, can detract from the natural beauty.

There are some drawbacks regarding access and safety, visitors overwhelmingly recommend the trip for the stunning seascape and the tranquil, clear waters, complemented by the charm of the local hospitality and natural scenery.
